About OSHAA

Occupational Safety & Health American Awards: protecting people and preserving productivity through verifiable certification.

OSHAA is an awarding body. We develop the qualifications, set the assessment standards, and certify the learners who meet them. Delivery is carried out by our Approved Training Providers, a network of independent centres we assess, approve, and continue to monitor.

That separation is deliberate, and it is the reason an OSHAA certificate is worth something. The organisation that sets the standard is not the organisation being paid to help you pass it.

Our qualifications span occupational safety and health, construction, oil and gas, lifting operations, and quality management, alongside a growing portfolio in healthcare, clinical practice, care and support, aquatic rescue, and early years. The subjects differ enormously. The requirement does not: every qualification is written against defined learning outcomes, assessed consistently, and issued only when a candidate has demonstrably met them.

Every certificate we issue carries a unique identifier and can be verified by anyone, at any time, through this site. Employers should never have to take a credential on trust.

Our mission

To make competence provable.

A qualification is a claim made to someone who was not in the room an employer reviewing an application, a client reviewing a contractor, a regulator reviewing an incident. Our work is to make sure that claim holds up.

We do this in three ways:

We write qualifications that reflect the work. Standards are developed with practitioners who do the job, and revised when the job changes. A qualification that has drifted from current practice is worse than no qualification, because it produces confidence that is not earned.

We hold our providers to the standard we publish. Approval is not a one-time transaction. Centres are assessed before approval and monitored afterwards, and approval can be withdrawn. Our providers' reputation and ours are the same asset.

We make verification effortless. Certification is only meaningful if it can be checked. Every OSHAA credential is independently verifiable, free, and without needing to contact us.

The purpose behind all of it is straightforward. In the sectors we serve, the gap between believed competence and actual competence is measured in injuries, in harm to patients and vulnerable people, and in lives. Closing that gap is the entire job.
